On holographic phase transitions at finite chemical potential

چکیده

Recent Holographic studies have shown that N=4 super Yang-Mills theory coupled to fundamental matter with finite chemical potential undergoes a first order phase transition. In this paper, we study Nf D6 probe branes with or without electric field on it in the black D4 brane background compactified on a circle with supersymmetry breaking boundary condition. At energy scales much lower than the compactification scale, the dual gauge theory is effectively four dimensional non-supersymmetric SU(Nc) Yang-Mills theory coupled to fundamental matter with or without baryon number charge. Within the supergravity approximation, the decoupling of the Kaluza-Klein modes is not fully realized. For chemical potential μb < NcMq there is a line of first order phase transitions from stable meson phase to unstable meson phase. On the other hand for μb > NcMq there is no phase transition and mesons are unstable. A peculiar and interesting property of this system is that for a certain range of chemical potential μb < NcMq, a new phase transition appears in the unstable meson phase. This phase transition is characterized by a discontinuous change of unstable meson lifetime.

Towards complete phase diagrams of a holographic p-wave superconductor model

We study in detail the phase structure of a holographic p-wave superconductor model in a five dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-complex vector field theory with a negative cosmological constant. To construct complete phase diagrams of the model, we consider both the soliton and black hole backgrounds. In both two cases, there exist second order, first order and zeroth order phase transitions, and th...

Holography and Fermions at a Finite Chemical Potential

We review the Sakai-Sugimoto model of holographic QCD at zero temperature and finite chemical potential, comparing the results to those expected at large-Nc QCD, and those in a closely related holographic model. We find that as the baryon chemical potential is increased above a critical value, there is a phase transition to a nuclear matter phase, the details of which depend on the model. We ar...

Holographic Model at Finite Temperature with R-charge density

We consider a holographic model of QCD at finite temperature with nonzero chemical potentials conjugate to R-charge densities. A critical surface of the confinement-deconfinement phase transition is shown for five-dimensional charged black hole solution given by Behrnd, Cvetič and Sabra. On a special section of the parameter space, we find an critical curve being similar to the one expected in ...

Scalar Fields at Finite Densities: a Δ Expansion Approach

We use an optimized hopping parameter expansion (linear δ-expansion) for the free energy to study the phase transitions at finite temperature and finite charge density in a global U(1) scalar Higgs sector in the continuum and on the lattice at large lattice couplings. We are able to plot out phase diagrams in lattice parameter space and find that the standard second-order phase transition with ...

Gauge Theory Duals of Black Hole - Black String Transitions of Gravitational Theories on a Circle

We study the black hole black string phase transitions of gravitational theories compactified on a circle using the holographic duality conjecture. The gauge theory duals of these theories are maximally supersymmetric and strongly coupled 1 + 1 dimensional SU(N) Yang-Mills theories compactified on a circle, in the large N limit. We perform the strongly coupled finite temperature gauge theory ca...
